ice lined refrigerator for vaccines
1 GENERAL INFORMATION
The MK-Model is a combined ice-lined vaccine refrigerator. It has one compartment for
vaccine storage (0 to +8°C) equipped with baskets.
1.1 ICE-LINING
The vaccine storage compartment is equipped with a pre installed and water-filled ice-lining
- ready for use. The frozen ice-lining will maintain temperatures below +10°C during power
cuts for up to 22 hours (at ambient temperatures up to 43°C).
1.2 POWER SUPPLY
The MK 144 / 204 / 304 is equipped with a heavy-duty compressor that can operate at voltages
22% below nominal voltage. See the rating plate. If voltage variations go beyond this
range it is recommended to use an automatic voltage stabilizer.
1.3 TECHNICAL DATA
See the rating plate which is placed at the rear side of the appliance.
2 UNPACKING and INSTALLATION
2.1 UNPACKING
_ Unpack the appliance and check that it has not been damaged. If you observe any damage,
inform your supervisor.
_ Check the rating for correct voltage and frequency.
_ Open and remove all internal packing material.

2.2 INSTALLATION
2.2.1 LOCATION:
_ The appliance must be placed in a well ventilated room, not in direct sunlight and
away from other heating sources.
_ Place the appliance on the floor, ensure that it is level. Distance between the wall and
the back and side of the appliance must be minimum 50 mm, and the distance between
the wall and the right side of the appliance must be minimum 100 mm. If installed in a
room with other refrigerators/freezers, ensure a minimum distance between the appliances
of minimum 200 mm.
2.2.2 PREPARATION
Check that the plug fits your type of socket. If it does not fit, have a qualified electrician to
fit the plug. This appliance must be earthed.
Colour code for leads:
Connect the plug to the socket and switch on the appliance.
_ Check, by listening, that the compressor is running, if it does not run, contact your
supervisor.
2.2.3 TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT
This appliance is equipped with an adjustable thermostat. See Figure 2 and Figure 3.

The appliance has a electronic thermostat that controls the temperature in the vaccine compartment.
Setting 1 applies minimum cold and setting 8 maximum cold.
1. The green lamp is on when the appliance is connected to the power supply.
2. Thermometer.
3. Thermostat for regulation on the inside temperature with a division from 1-2-3-4 to 8.
2.2.4 COOL DOWN OF THE APPLIANCE
Before the appliance is loaded with vaccines the ice-lining in the 4 sides must be frozen.
To ensure that the ice-lining in the 4 sides is frozen do the following:
1. Set the external thermostat at position 8, see Figure 3
2. Place a thermometer in the top basket.
3. Check the temperature in the top and bottom basket (must be between +2° and +8°C).
The temperature in the vaccine compartment must always be monitored on the thermometer
and be within the range +2 to +8°C.
Recommended settings for Ice lined refrigerator :
Due to tolerance of the thermostat you should always control the temperature during cool
down.

3 LOADING THE APPLIANCE
3.1 STARTING PROCEDURE
Connect the mains lead to the power supply. The green lamp must must light Fig. 3 (1) to
indicate that the appliance is operating. The thermostat (3) is set on position „8“ or adjusted
to be between +2°C - 8°C. Keep this position for at least 24 hours.
! The electronic thermostat make a self test, 20 seconds before the compressor start.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
After 24 hours’ operation the thermostat setting is adjusted to position „5“. After another 8
hours’ operation at thermostat position „5“ the inside temperature must be between +2° and
+8°C. The temperature is checked with an accurate thermometer which is placed at the bottom
of the top vaccine basket. The inside temperature must be checked regularly according
to WHO’s standards and specifications.
LOADING VACCINES
When the temperature in the vaccine compartment has stabilized, i.e. and the temperature is
between +2° and +8°C and the compressor stops and starts, vaccines can be loaded.
The vaccines should be placed and arranged in the baskets, and remember to place the
water filled lids. Figure 2.
Figure 4. Top view.
4 DEFROSTING AND CLEANING
For the appliance to operate well and to save energy, it is important that it is cleaned and
defrosted regularly.
When opening the appliance, moisture enters and settles on inner cold surfaces and forms a
layer of frost or ice. The layer of ice makes the refrigerator less efficient and must be
removed, "defrosted".
It is recommended that the appliance be defrosted every third month.

4.1 DEFROSTING
_ Before defrosting the vaccines must be moved to another working refrigerator or cold
box with icepacks. Switch off the appliance and pull out the plug.
_ Open the lids and leave open
_ Keep the lids open to allow the frost to melt completely.
4.2 CLEANING
_ Once the appliance is defrosted it must be cleaned.
_ Clean the inside of the appliance with a mixture of lukewarm water and a mild
detergent.
_ Allow the cleaned parts to dry completely.
_ Clean the outside of the appliance with a mixture of lukewarm water and a mild
detergent or soap.
_ Close the lid and follow the procedures in COOL DOWN OF THE APPLIANCE.
5 TROUBLE SHOOTING
If you observe that the appliance is not working at all or not working properly - please check
the following before contacting your supervisor:
_ Is the green power supply lamp on?
_ Is the plug correctly in the socket?
_ Has the fuse blown?
_ Is there a power failure?
_ Is the setting of the thermostat correct? See 2.2.3 TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT.
_ Is the appliance placed too close to a heat source?
If the compressor makes repeated attemps to start without result, then turn off the electricity
supply for about 20 minutes and then try again. Do not try to repair the appliance yourself.

  1. I appreciate of this blog. There are so many manufacturers available in the market these days. Meditech amongst of them. Meditech ice lined refrigerator uses anti-Freeze technology to maintain temperature between +2 degree C to +8 degree C. Electricity required per 24 hours of operation at 43°C ambient is only 2.5hours. The Refrigerator comes with self regulating cooling system. The Vaccine compartment is equipped with air circulation system. External cabinet is made up of powder coated bacteria resistant CRCA steel and so many other advanced features.
